Our bloodstock and livestock team is part
of our commercial risk and reinsurance team. We are highly
respected in the London market for our
specialist knowledge of bloodstock
insurance.
Members of our team are regularly invited to speak at
bloodstock market events, such as at the Equine Veterinary
Association Insurance Meeting in Newmarket,
and at the Hong Kong Race Horse Owners'
Association.
We are responsible for writing the chapter on the subject in
Tolley's Insurance Handbook and have contributed to
articles on various bloodstock and livestock topics in
Insurance Day and other insurance publications.
Our team acts for Lloyd's syndicates,
company insurers and brokers. In addition to dealing with cases in
the English courts, our experience and expertise extends to
advising on matters involving foreign jurisdictions such as
Canada, Australia, New
Zealand, South Africa, and
South America.
Our areas of expertise are broad and include the
following:
- advising on market wordings;
- advising upon and drafting bespoke wordings;
- advising on binding authorities;
- advising on and defending claims relating to all risks
including mortality, stallion infertility, prospective foal, loss
of use, loss of income, and theft;
- liaising with loss adjusters and brokers;
- negotiating settlements and subrogation rights;
- drafting agreements relating to studs, stallions' standing
rights, and sale of horses; and
- advising on liability claims involving horses.
In addition, our team has advised a number of clients on
policy coverage issues and claims relating to livestock, fish
farms, and exotics.
