Travel and TourismImage of BLG staff

The increased pace of globalisation has meant that the travel and tourism industry is facing greater competition and consolidation. This, coupled with the integration of EU law and swift technological advancements, has created a challenging environment for industry participants, who need specialist and practical legal advice to help them maintain and further their position.

We have many years of experience in advising on travel and tourism issues and act for carriers, tour operators, travel agents, and regulatory bodies.

Our team also provides regulatory advice to the travel industry through the Federation of Tour Operators, which represents the majority of the UK package holiday market.  Among others, our clients include Carnival plc, the UK's largest cruise ship operator and Kuoni Travel. We have a deep understanding of both regulatory and industry issues, combining this with our specialist legal expertise to protect and further our clients' interests.

We frequently advise on:
  • licensing and regulatory issues for new entrants to the industry;
  • bonding requirements and financial protection generally;
  • ATOL regulations;
  • terms and conditions (including brochure conditions);
  • internet holiday sales;
  • package travel regulations; and
  • obligations and liabilities of tour operators and travel organisers.
Our expertise has been recognised by leading directories such as the Legal 500 and Chambers & Partners, which note our team to be "particularly well-regarded on the regulatory side" and our lawyers to be "adept at navigating the twists and turns of... EU law."
