Barlow Lyde & Gilbert’s Hong Kong office was established in 1986 and its Shanghai office in 2000 to meet clients’ increasing needs for representation in mainland China.  Our Hong Kong and Shanghai offices operate as an integrated unit.  We also work closely with our colleagues in Singapore and London, who also have extensive experience in China.

We are especially renowned for our expertise in commercial litigation and dispute resolution, as well as insurance and reinsurance.  We have one of the largest dispute resolution teams in the Asia Pacific region and are currently handling one the biggest pieces of litigation before the Hong Kong courts.  We are ranked Tier 2 for dispute resolution in Chambers Asia and Tier 1 for insurance in the Chambers Asia 2009 and Asia Pacific Legal 500 2008/2009 legal directories.  We also have the largest aviation insurance practice in the region, and the only firm with a dedicated aviation insurance team in Greater China. 

Our practice has significantly expanded over the past few years and currently has a team of 7 partners and over 45 lawyers and legal professionals.   Our lawyers are qualified to practise law in Hong Kong, the PRC, England and Wales, Italy, Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand and Canada.  Members of our team are also fluent in English, Cantonese, Mandarin, Italian, German, French, Portuguese and Malay.
