Barlow Lyde & Gilbert LLP ("BLG”) has
announced the appointment of Mark Errington to lead its non-marine
insurance practice in Singapore. Mark joins BLG from the Singapore
office of UK law firm Clyde & Co. Mark specialises in insurance
and reinsurance (both marine and non-marine) and international
arbitration, and has substantial regional experience having lived
and worked in Singapore since 2001.
Going forward, Mark will be responsible for
the further development of BLG’s Non-marine Insurance Practice
working closely with John Hanson and the firm’s insurance practices
in Hong Kong and Shanghai led by David Smyth. It is planned that
John Hanson will return to BLG’s London office during the course of
2010 to assist with the international coordination between London
and Asia. Many of the firm’s major insurance clients are based in
London and John will continue to work closely with Mark in
strengthening BLG’s relationships with our clients in Singapore and
throughout Asia.
As well as developing the non-marine insurance
practice, Mark will also use his extensive experience in marine and
energy related matters to work with Patric McGonigal who leads
BLG’s Marine, Energy & Trade Group in
Asia.
Mert Hifzi, BLG’s Singapore managing partner,
commented: “We are delighted to welcome Mark to the Singapore team.
Mark’s strength in insurance and marine and energy complements our
existing capability in these areas. International arbitration is
also an area we are looking to develop. Mark has worked on several
major international arbitrations in Singapore and Asia, and this
experience will be particularly advantageous.”
Mark Errington said: “BLG has an excellent
reputation and is a leader for insurance and dispute resolution,
and the firm recognises that the future of the global insurance
industry will be in Asia. I am looking forward to the opportunity
of making an invaluable contribution to the development of BLG’s
insurance practice not only in Singapore but in Asia as a
region.”
BLG senior partner Simon Konsta noted that:
“Mark’s appointment is a significant step in BLG’s international
strategy to develop the full potential of its global insurance and
international arbitration practices.”
