Aidan Thomson is head of environment and climate change. He has
practised environmental law since he qualified in 1993.
Acting for clients in the insurance, chemicals, nuclear, rail,
local government, aviation, engineering, mining, water and
energy sectors, Aidan has wide-ranging experience in contentious
and non-contentious environmental matters.
On the non contentious side, he advises on the full range of
environmental liability and compliance issues both in a stand-alone
and in a transactional context.
On the contentious side, he has been involved in defending
prosecutions and multi-party claims, restraining protestor action,
judicial review, environmental warranty and indemnity claims
and insurance coverage disputes.
His experience also includes a one-year secondment to a New York
law firm where he dealt exclusively with US environmental matters.
Aidan has written a number of articles and contributed to
textbooks on environmental matters including Multi-Party
Actions,Tolley's Environmental Law and Tolley's Insurance Law
Handbook. He is recommended in Chambers &
Partners, 2010, and in the Legal 500, 2009.
Aidan's practice also includes advising on health and safety
issues, especially those that arise in conjunction with
environmental issues. He is a member of the firm's Health and
Safety group and has advised on discreet health and safety law
issues generally and in the context of corporate transactions. He
has also advised on a number of health and safety prosecutions and
investigations.
